  • UPDATE: For the 3 days off, you will be working with Worldy Wise words, but if you did not bring your Worldy Wise book home, here you can access the words from Chapter 5: Worldly Wise Book 10 Chapter 5 Flashcards.
  • Read the following document of quotes and choose a quote you like best: Great Quotations.  It can NOT be one that we’ve done in class before.
  • Using at least 6 of the WW words from Chapter 5, write a strong paragraph relating to the quote you chose using the usual techniques.  You will be graded for 1) the usual mechanics, 2) correct usage of the words and 3) for thorough and convincing analysis of the quote.  This assignment should be typed, because you must email it to me BEFORE Monday morning.
  • You do NOT have to reference a text unless you feel it would help support your argument.
  • Complete comprehension questions for “Pit and the Pendulum” pg. 177 #1-8 on a separate sheet of paper.  Please write in COMPLETE SENTENCES.
  • WW 5A-5B on a separate sheet of paper.
  • Think about ways that you are going to improve your behavior for next class.
  • Write your paragraph directly referencing one or preferably both Shakespeare sonnets #22 & 73 based on their major common themes.

  • Study for the WW official book quiz on Chapters 2-4.
  • Complete Worldly Wise 4C-4E on a separate sheet of paper (if you haven’t already).
  • Finish your script for your group’s sequel if you haven’t already.
  • Write a handwritten, structured paragraph on a separate sheet of paper  (you will be graded for errors) about ONE of the following topics/themes from the movie “Life Is Beautiful:”:
    • The way you perceive a situation can change your view of reality and your behavior towards it
    • It’s important to cherish/make a priority the ones you love
    • The importance/value of childhood innocence
    • Self-sacrifice from parent to child
    • Desire and willpower can overcome everything (e.g. “mind over matter”)
  • Finish Wordly Wise 3A to 3E if you haven’t already!
  • Write a careful paragraph (this will be graded for accuracy) based on the two texts: the “Tiger Mom” article and “Two Kinds” from “Elements of Literature.”  Paragraph topics to choose from are as follows (please choose ONE):
    • When is teenage rebellion healthy and normal?
    • Is Chinese parenting too cruel? / What are the benefits/disadvantages of Chinese parenting?
    • What are the consequences of very strict or very lenient parenting?
    • How much can parents really control their children’s behavior?
    • How much is a child’s personality a result of nature and how much results from upbringing/parenting?
    • What is the main cause of teenage rebellion?
    • Which parenting style is ultimately more beneficial/loving: Chinese (strict) or Western/American (permissive)?
