  • Complete Worldly Wise activities 2C, 2D, & 2E on a separate sheet of paper (one activity per page- can be double-sided), staple with 2A & 2B, and be ready to hand in on this day.
  • Finish reading “In the Time of the Butterflies” by  January 11th
  • There will be a test on the last third of the novel on Friday, January 11th
  • There will be a creative writing assignment and project relating to the novel that I will explain when we get back from winter vacation, due two weeks afterwards.

Final Exam Guidelines

The semester final exam will be composed of:

  1. One essay: involving reading response, plot analysis, character analysis, comparison/contrast, critique, and/or interpretation of the novel- there will be 2 options/topics to choose from.
    • This will be graded according to content
  2. One paragraph: descriptive writing involving interpretation of a quote with figurative language- there will be 3 options/topics to choose from.
    • This will be graded according to form (structure, organization, mechanics, etc.)

Please make sure you study:

  1. The novel “In the Time of the Butterflies” Chapter 1-8 in depth
  2. Your literary elements that we covered in class- you will be asked to provide specific examples in your essay and/or paragraph of certain elements as they apply to what you’ve read (click here to access the document: Literary Elements & Techniques- In Alpha Order- With Examples )
  3. All the vocabulary words you’ve learned so far this year including that from Worldly Wise.  You will need to use them in your essays and/or paragraphs (click here to access the comprehensive list: In the Time of the Butterflies- Vocab List with Definitions- Chapters 2-8 )
  • None:  Breathe!
  • None- breathe!
  • Finish your vocab worksheet for words from Chapter 8.  IF YOU  HAVEN’T FINISHED THE VOCAB FROM PREVIOUS CHAPTERS, DECEMBER 4TH WILL BE THE LAST DAY TO TURN IT IN.
  • Finish comprehension questions for Chapter 8 if you haven’t already.  DECEMBER 4TH WILL BE THE LAST DAY TO TURN IN ALL COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS, LATE OR NOT.
  • Study for the vocab quiz on yellow highlighted vocab words from Chapters 5-8 (click here to open the complete list: In the Time of the Butterflies- Vocab- Chapters 5-8)

 

  • Read all of Chapter 8 and be prepared to take a quiz on the chapter in class.
  • Finish reading Chapter 7 and be prepared to take a quiz on the chapter.
