Objective:
-
To learn all four English skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening and immediately use/apply them the fun and natural way through self-expressive activities and curriculum that participants truly enjoy. These activities are related to the visual and performing arts and other creative, communicative, hands-on activities in the following areas:

Visual arts (photography, painting, drawing, sculpture)

Music (singing/karaoke [including lyric-writing], guitar, piano)
-
Drama & Video (role-plays, formal plays, advertisements, skits, improv)
-
Bodily movement/kinesthetics (yoga, sports, dance, aerobics)
-
Organic and/or native culture healthy cooking
Curriculum/Methodology:
Course Content:

10-week sessions per module, 3 hours per week, 2 weeks per area = 30 hours minimum total and 6 hours dedicated to each area:

Session 1 & 2 (Weeks 1 & 2): English through Visual Arts

Session 3 & 4 (Weeks 3 & 4): English through Music & Song
-
Session 5 & 6 (Weeks 5 & 6): English through Drama & Video
-
Session 7 & 8 (Weeks 7 & 8): English through Kinesthetics
-
Session 9 & 10 (Weeks 9 & 10) English through Organic/Native Culture Cooking
-
Session 11- Final Exhibition: Cumulative Presentation exhibiting two or more of the students’ favorite final performances as well as a summative oral presentation and written piece.

Weekly one-hour optional workshop focused on a specific English skill based on the language needs of current students.
Course Time Allotment:
-
25% Direct Instruction on a language topic
-
25% Analysis of another’s piece (work of art, song, video, dish, etc.) using learned language topic
-
30% Practical Application through personal creation/action of the above activities using learned language topic
-
20% Final Performance/Presentation/Exhibition using learned language topic
Course Class Size:
-
Usually no larger than 10 students per class.
-
Absolute maximum class size depending on enrollment: 15 students.
-
If enrollment exceeds the 10-person limit, consideration will be made to create a new class containing smaller numbers of people, depending on staffing.
Course Schedule:
-
Each session/module will be offered twice a week, 1.5 hours each day, for 10 weeks.
-
Optional workshops will be held twice a week for 1 hour each.

The schedule will look at follows:

Group 1: Mondays and Wednesdays 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
-
Group 2: Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Group 3: Saturdays 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
-
Optional workshops: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
