  • Complete comprehension questions for Chapters 15-16 if you haven’t already on a separate sheet of paper (make sure you read it first).
  • Complete the vocab worksheet for words for Chapters 15-16.  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL VOCAB WORKSHEETS FOR CHAPTERS 13-16 TURNED IN BY THIS DAY.
  • Study for the vocab quiz on all words from Chapters 9-16.  Click here for the full list: The Giver- Vocab Chapters 9-16.  You will have 10 minutes in class to study for the quiz beforehand.
  • None!  Enjoy your long weekend!!
  • Complete comprehension questions for Chapter 14.  NOTE:  This will not be due until we’ve finished reading Chapter 16 (you can turn in the questions for Chapters 13-16 at once) but I will be checking to make sure you did it.
  • Finish reading Chapter 13 of “The Giver.”

  • Pick your best/favorite journal entry that you’ve written this school year, and write in a formal paragraph with richer vocabulary and your own “voice,” and turn it in.  It should be:
    • Typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 13-point font
    • Printed out BEFORE the start of my class.
    • Between 130 and 170 words (if you write more, I won’t take points off).

  • Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, “a factitious word alleged to mean ‘a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, causing inflammation in the lungs.'”
  • A condition meeting the word’s definition is normally called silicosis.
  • It occurs chiefly as an instance of a very long word.
  • The 45-letter word was coined as the longest word to ever appear in an English language dictionary.
