- Generate 5 questions about animal intelligence (based on the class reading) that could be used as potential paragraph topics.
- Complete WW Chapter 2, activities 2C-2E, on a separate sheet of paper
- Write a paragraph based on the guidelines I discussed in class on ONE of the following questions:
- The importance of having self-esteem / The effects of having low self-esteem
- Do you think sororities should exist?
- What is causing social pressure in our modern society?
- The harmful effects of bullying
- Lack of identity in adolescents / “Following the crowd” in highschool
- The effects of social exclusion in high school
- The effects of loneliness
- The guidelines are as follows:
- Must be between 10 and 13 sentences and all elements should be labeled (TS for Topic Statement, THESIS for thesis, BODY for body, and CONCL. for conclusion). I will remove 0.5 points per error for 4 things:
- Spelling
- Word Choice
- Repetition (of words and/or phrases)
- “The obvious-” Content, Length, Handwriting, Capitalization, and the obvious aspects of Punctuation
- Must be between 10 and 13 sentences and all elements should be labeled (TS for Topic Statement, THESIS for thesis, BODY for body, and CONCL. for conclusion). I will remove 0.5 points per error for 4 things:
- Work on your sequel that will be due on Friday, January 11th, NO EXCEPTIONS. (If I were you, I would plan my time accordingly so that I am not waiting until the last minute).
- Over the next two weeks after January 11th, you will work with your group members at home and in class to develop your script and create the video. The group members are as following:

Final Exam Guidelines
The semester final exam will be composed of:
- One essay: involving reading response, plot analysis and evaluation, character analysis, comparison/contrast, critique, theme, allegory/social commentary, and/or interpretation of the novel- there will be 2 options/topics to choose from.
- This will be graded according to content
- One paragraph: descriptive writing involving interpretation of a quote with figurative language- there will be 3 options/topics to choose from.
- This will be graded according to form (structure, organization, mechanics, etc.)
Please make sure you study:
- The novel “The Giver” in depth
- Your literary elements that we covered in class- you will be asked to provide specific examples in your essay and/or paragraph of certain elements as they apply to what you’ve read (click here to access the document: Literary Elements & Techniques- In Alpha Order- With Examples). - Complete comprehension questions for Chapters 15-16 if you haven’t already on a separate sheet of paper (make sure you read it first).
- Complete the vocab worksheet for words for Chapters 15-16. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL VOCAB WORKSHEETS FOR CHAPTERS 13-16 TURNED IN BY THIS DAY.
- Study for the vocab quiz on all words from Chapters 9-16. Click here for the full list: The Giver- Vocab Chapters 9-16. You will have 10 minutes in class to study for the quiz beforehand.
- Finish reading Chapter 13 (if you haven’t already)
- Complete comprehension questions for Chapter 13 on a separate sheet of paper
- Read all of Chapter 14 and BE PREPARED FOR A QUIZ
- Complete and be ready to turn in your vocab worksheet assignment for the words from Chapters 9-12 (if you haven’t already).
